Inspired by the history of snakes and ladders originated in ancient India as a spiritual tool to teach morals( also known as Moksha Patam). The game used ladders that represented virtues, while snakes are life’s vices causing setbacks in one’s spiritual enlightenment. The game then made its way to Victorian England where the game was modified for Christian teachings, before finally making its way to The United States where it was simplified and rebranded as “Chutes and Ladders”.

Nawei decided to create her own version of this game turning it into a playable art piece called “Dragons and Arrows” to give tribute to the ancient game.
